Stoughton SSDI/SSI Benefits Attorneys

Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) is a federal government benefit for people who are unable to work due to a physical or mental disability. To be eligible for benefits, an individual must have a disability that has lasted, or is expected to last, for at least 12 months. In addition, an individual must have earned a sufficient number of work credits.

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) is a federal government benefit for people with limited or no assets who are at least 65, legally blind or disabled. Since there are no work requirements for SSI, people who do not have sufficient work credits for SSDI benefits may be eligible for SSI benefits.

What SSDI Benefits Are Available?

If you are eligible for SSDI benefits, you will get a monthly SSDI check. Depending on the facts of your case, you may be eligible to receive back benefits. In addition, you will be eligible for medical benefits 24 months after you qualify for SSDI. Spouses and children of SSDI recipients may be eligible to receive a monthly benefit up to one-half of your monthly benefit (there is a maximum cap for large families).

How Much Will I Get Each Month?

Your SSDI benefits are based on your age and your average earnings during your working years.

What SSI Benefits Are Available?

If you are eligible for SSI benefits, you will receive a monthly SSI check. The amount you receive depends on your eligibility category (disabled, blind, 65 or older), family status (e.g., single, married, children, no children), income and living arrangements. Massachusetts residents who receive SSI are automatically eligible for MassHealth Standard health care coverage (Medicaid is part of MassHealth).
